ROCK FOR HOMES
In the past, this event was titled Kanta at Kalinga, to aid in the effort to build a village in the Philippines that would give homes to 60-100 impoverished families through Gawad Kalinga. Because of the need for immediate aid in the Philippines after Typhoon Ondoy, we’ve decided to change our service project for this event to benefit the Philippine National Red Cross as well. The aftermath of the typhoon left the Philippines in dire need of aid.
With talented singers and bands from all over Boston and the Northeast, BUFSA promises a night a great music of all types of genres.
Music Speaks
In January 2010, BUFSA teamed up with singer AJ Rafael to raise awareness about Autism, and start the nation-wide musical phenomenon known as Music Speaks. Music Speaks has an important mission, aiming to spread awareness about Autism, and encourage action that would improve the conditions of the lives and families that it affects. A personal experience that inspired this goal is when Rafael’s nephew, Nathan, was diagnosed with Autism when he was about two years old. Despite his condition, Nathan is a loving, fun, and active child who is very responsive, and is born with the love of music and dance. The more his family loves and watches over Nathan as he grows older, the more frustrating it can be knowing that his peers will never fully understand his situation, and these misunderstandings could lead to prejudice and pain for him throughout his life. Music Speaks means utilizing the gifts of music and dance to inspire those fortunate enough to be born without autism to speak out for those who were, by being aware of their condition and taking action towards improving their living conditions and perhaps even uncovering the mystery behind its cause.
